It’s been quite some time since I posted here. Nothing sinister happened, or anything like that, I just haven’t really been…motivated enough to write something. That hasn’t usually stopped me in the past, but quite honestly the last thing I want to do when I get home from work is sit in from of a computer again. This is the reason I need to get myself a laptop, actually – my efforts at writing something worthwhile and meaningful barely seem to getting past the “oh yeah – I should do that” stage. I’d like to do a lot more writing because I seem to have all these ideas but – even though I do a bit every now and again – I’m not writing as much as I’d like (although in my defence part of that is because I’m busy. Really!)
In any case, since last I wrote here I’ve been away. I went to England! My aunt was getting married and this seemed a pretty good pretext to get over there and spend some time with people. I had a good time. It was nice to see my family – no really, it was! – even though for various reason I’ve not seen them for a long time, or in some cases, hadn’t actually met them before.
The first week was spent in Shrewsbury, which is on the Welsh border but still quite nice regardless. This is where both my mother and my aunt live, and it was also where the wedding was. So that was convenient. It’s a really nice town. Then, a few days after the wedding me and my sister drove down through Wales to Devon, stopping along to the way to say hello to another aunt, Elaine.
Me and Laura hadn’t spent a lot of time together for quite some time, for various reasons, so it was great to actually get to spend some time with her. I’ll not go into anything overly emotional here, but suffice it to say that I’m really glad I got the chance to “re-connect” with her after several years of not being as close as used to be. So that was fun. And, it was actually the first time I’ve had to say goodbye to her like that – when I moved to the States she had cleverly decided to be in Australia so I didn’t really need to.
It was a lot harder than I thought it’d be, even though I wanted to come back home.
See, I told you this was going to be totally uninspiring. I have about a dozen half written things lying about on my computer but I don’t seem to be able to finish them right now. It’s kind of worrying, actually – I seem to have rather a short attention sp- SQUIRREL!
