How Perceys lost this game by such an enormous score is a mystery. They played particularly well in the first half but could not make their intense pressure tell.
Although a cliche – it really was against the run of play that Bovril took the lead. A harmless Holman cross (playing his last game for Bovril before signing for Perceys) was deflected to Cat by Badcott, but a slight mis-judgement saw the ball rebound out of the area and fall to a BB player to put them ahead.
However, this did not stem the Percey waves of attack and eventually their pressure told. A Head corner was deflected, ironically, by Holman into his own net, for ‘his first goal of the season for Perceys’, as it were.
But despite quite spirited play by Perceys, especially from debutant, Danny Murray, who had a storming game and is a real nice bloke to boot…he fitted in especially well – Bovril scored repeatedly on the break – only interupted by Badcott’s goal at 2-5.
2-8 is an awful scoreline but it does not begin to reflect the fact that Perceys actually played well…they kept going and did not deserve such a hammering.
